Amy Carlson

The family was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy Carlson spent most of her childhood in the Chicago region. Amy lived with her family in Chicago until she was in junior high. Her parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the younger sister of Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her family as well as on her own. Her parents were teachers so they could spend every summer camping together and travel all across the United States. They've camped across every state except Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 following the war to help with relief efforts. Amy was a talented actor in school productions and was a winner of writing contests. High school was where she was a star athlete taking part in the first ever 3200 meter relay race for girls in the Illinois track. After a college injury, she returned the theater and performed in a variety on stage starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" as well as directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) cum laude with an A.A. East Asian history, with a concentration in Theater. She relocated to Chicago shortly after and then studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and acting at The Actor's Center. Soon after graduating she was offered a permanent on the soap series Another World (1964). The category she was nominated for is "Outstanding support actress on an Daytime Drama Series", she was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable performances were of strong women, such as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler who is her husband and the Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She is also the proprietor of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label and acts as a co-owner. Amy is still working in the field of film and writing.
